Literature Circle BLOG 1
The scenes I chose were when Lupe first meets Colonel down by the creek, and instantly its love at first sight, he’s her prince. Lupe was a 6 year old in love with a guy in his 20’s. its funny to see this little girl thinking that this is her fairytale prince, and they will live happily ever after. But at the same time it shows how at such a young age, Lupe is so mature because of the environment she has grew up in. its funny and crazy to even think of a little girl in love, let alone with a man in his 20’s. I have had experiences as a little girl liking boys, but not love in first sight like Lupe. The second scene I chose was when Lupe climbs up the mountain and is hoping to see Colonel on his way back home, but discovers that old man Benito, Victoriano (her brother), and Dona Guadalupe (her mother) have found a mine of gold by the waterfall. But when they tell her she can’t tell Colonel or anyone about it, so she gets upset. I like this scene because it shows the fear of finding such a beautiful, and enriching thing can cause harm to the finders of it because of the revolution. Victoriano is also very mature for his age, he knows if Colonel finds out about the gold, they will not get anything out of it, it will go straight to the Americans for guns, etc. They all live in a difficult time of war, struggle, and greed. This gold can possibly help them financially, as long as no one finds out about it. These scenes show me tell me a little more about the people in Rain of Gold, they show me love, pain, struggle, and fear. That’s why I chose them.
